A Biblical Timeline Chart Offers A Creative Approach To Help Teach Biblical Characters And Events And Principles

In a Bible study some years ago, somebody, who had been a Christian and laboured in the local Church for years, said,"Yes, but Abraham had the Law and so he understood about......" (they were not referring to the pre-mosaic law) I wonder just how many Christians will actually notice the error in this statement. Moses existed five hundred years after Abraham and so it is not possible. I have since then put together a Bible chronology chart and shown visually the dating of people and events.

Some years ago, I was speaking on the burial, death, life and resurrection of Christ Jesus, and a retired minister and strong preacher of the Bible, who had been a pastor for 40 years, came to me and reproved me smartly over some interesting points I made and he noted 1Ti 1:4'Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.' I quietly asked him if I had been saying anything of a heretical nature at all, to which he answered"No". I continued on to explain that in the case of that particular verse, it wasn't speaking to exploring the Bible but to the false teachings and philosophy of the Gnostics, but he wouldn't have it. So, how can a 40 year preacher & laborer in the Gospel, not understand and know about a thing that possibly 1/2 the books of the New Testament refer to?
How could he study and teach the Bible fully without knowing about a thing that was so influential in the New Testament church? And then how can the congregation hope to figure out these things and be in a position to understand their Bible effectively, if they're not told?
Let's us as instructors and preachers sew together the fragments of God's Word and His plan into a seamless tapestry that our people can draw on for the rest of life, helping them to figure out God, His Eternal Plan, the function of the Church and ways to better interpret the Bible to order our lives by.
It is not difficult to do, and it is not boring if we're prepared to put in a bit of effort prayer and fervor, and just perhaps you can make use of a Bible Timeline too.
